Mr. Dileep Choksi

Mr. Dileep C. Choksi is a leading Chartered Accountant by profession and has over 35 years of experience. His areas of specialization include tax planning and structuring for domestic and international clients, including expatriates; finalizing collaborations and joint ventures; executive advisory and decision support; corporate restructuring with a focus on start- up, turnaround and change management strategies; and analyzing tax impact of various instruments. He advises some of India’s largest business houses on various strategic decisions, including mergers and acquisitions and multinational clients on cross border structuring. Dileep is a co-investor in one of Kauzala's new media initiatives, and is a senior advisor on real estate initiatives in India. 

Trusts and trusteeship have played an important part in the industrial world for the purposes of securing assets for future generations as well as for complying with regulatory provisions such as the MRTP Act, the Companies Act and the Income Tax Act. During the regime when Wealth Tax, Estate Duty and Gift Tax were also leviable, trusts played an important role in estate planning and business reorganization. Dileep has extensive experience in the business reorganization of industrial houses like Mafatlal and Ashok Birla group.

In addition, the Companies Act had restrictive provisions regarding the management of charity trusts, activities and businesses that can be carried on by them and regulatory provisions regarding investments. The setting up of such trusts and acting as trustees have been matters that Dileep has been dealing with over several years where business houses have used trusts (both private and charitable) as a part of their organization.

Dileep has also worked with corporates in progressing their social objectives through the setting up of Section 25 companies and advising them on their setup, operations and compliance. Dileep has also actively been engaged in testamentary and non-testamentary devolution of property and has dealt with estates of some of the large business houses in the country.

Dileep enjoys teaching when his professional commitments allow and has contributed to various papers on mergers and acquisitions, valuation of business enterprises, company law, and taxation. He has been a speaker at various seminars and conferences of professional interests organized by the Bombay Chartered Accountant's Society, the Institute of Chartered Accountants and other forums.

He has been an ex-visiting faculty member of the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Bankers Training College, and Reserve Bank of India. He was earlier on the Taxation Committee of the Indian Merchant Chambers. He also was on the Advisory Board of foreign banks as well as ex-Chairman of Banque Nationale De Paris, Bombay. He has contributed in the preparation of Kanga and Palkhivala’s most prominent book, “The Laws and Practice of Income Tax” (8th Edition), by the late Mr. N. A. Palkhivala and Mr. B.A. Palkhivala.

Dileep is on the Board of Directors of several leading private sector organizations, namely ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Limited, ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company Limited, NSE.IT Limited, State Bank of India, Reliance GeneMedix plc., 3i Infotech Limited, ICICI Housing Finance Company and Ahmedabad Commodity Exchange Limited.

Dileep has been identified with the accelerated growth of Deloitte in India and till recently was the Vice Chairman of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in India, before the setting up of C3 Advisors. He has brought to C3 a strong work ethic and has been able to motivate, mentor and lead talented human capital towards a common purpose, while giving them a sense of irreproachable integrity.

He was a trustee of Child Relief and You (CRY), an organization that is dedicated to the education and welfare of underprivileged children. He is a trustee of Anchorage, an institute for the rehabilitation of the mentally challenged. He is a passionate rider and a sports enthusiast, and is a member of The Cricket Club of India Limited, Bombay Gymkhana, The Malabar Club Limited, and the Amateur Riders Club.

Dileep is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India – Rank holder at the Intermediate and Final examination, Bachelor of Law, and Member of the Institute of the Cost and Works Accountants of India.
